Jim Vahrenkamp
Assistant Coach
Jim Vahrenkamp enters his first season as assistant track & field and cross country coach at Augustana.
He comes to Augustana after spending a year as an assistant coach at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. While there he coached throwers and multi-event athletes for both the indoor and outdoor teams. At Emory, Vahrenkamp was part of a staff that helped the Eagles return to the top of the University Athletic Association in 2009. Emory won its first UAA indoor championship during the 2009 season. As a result, the Eagles' coaching staff was named the UAA Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year.
Vahrenkamp had an impact with the Emory throwers, high jumpers, pole vaulters and multi-sport athletes. He coached 2 NCAA provisional national qualifiers and 1 school record holder.
Before Emory, Vahrenkamp spent 2 years as an assistant coach at the University of South Dakota. At USD, he worked with the Coyotes' decathletes, heptathletes, high jumpers, long jumpers and javelin throwers. Prior to that, Vahrenkamp served 4 years as an assistant at Rapid City Christian High School. While there he worked with the jumpers, throwers and hurdlers. During his time at Rapid City Christian, he coached his athletes to 8 school records.
Vahrenkamp was a 3-year member of the track and field team at South Dakota where he was a qualifier for the decathlon at the 2006 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At that meet, the Coyotes finished fourth in the team standings.
He spent his freshman year at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He was a national qualifier in both the pentathlon and the high jump at the 2002 NAIA Indoor Championships.
Vahrenkamp received a bachelor's degree in education from South Dakota in 2006, and he earned his master's degree in history from USD in 2009.

Jeremy Klaassen
Assistant Coach
Jeremy Klaassen is in his seventh season as an assist Track and Field coach at Augustana, where his throwers have set numerous school records in throwing events.
During his time with Augie, seven school records have been set by athletes he has worked with.
He also helped Jen Buyske with the 2005 National Championship in the javelin throw as a freshman with a throw of 156-9.00 meters. He has also trained 13 NCAA Division II qualifiers.
Before coming to Augustana, he earned his B.A. in Arts in Wellness Management from the University of Sioux Falls and earned a Master of Arts in Exercise Science/Heath Promotion from the University of Northern Iowa.
He currently is the owner of X-Fitness Gym in Sioux Falls and lives with his wife Jamie in Harrisburg.
Heath Moenck
Graduate Assistant Coach
Heath Moenck is entering his third year at Augustana and first year as assistant coach for the cross country and track & field teams. Previously, Moenck was the Graduate Assistant. Moenck will be focusing his time on recruiting and specializes in distance running.
Moenck earned his B.A. in Health and Sports Studies in May of 2008 from the University of Iowa before coming to Augustana, where he was a member of Iowa’s cross country and track & field teams from 2004 to 2008.
While at Iowa, Moenck was a letter winner for both sports and was the Co-Captain for the 2007 cross country season. Moenck is a native of Webster City, Iowa. He earned a masters degree in Sports Management at Augustana.
